About Neonatal Support Project
Our Mission
Our mission is to support families navigating the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) experience by easing stress and helping them focus on their premature child and themselves because that's the care they deserve. We connect with hospitals, create individualized plans for each hospital based on its system, and work together to help NICU families one step at a time. We like to ensure that each family has the basic infant supplies they need. We do this by providing clothes and supplies tailored to each parent's needs and each hospital's capacity.
We make it our duty to help every family we can in the easiest way for them. We take care of all responsibilities, managing donations and buying specific items that families need with money we have raised. We also collect a wide variety of gently used or unused donations such as children's books, children's clothing, diapers, breast pumps, swaddlers, blankets, and more. We’ve been especially supported by families who have gone through this journey before and want to give back to help.
Many former NICU mothers have expressed a feeling of clarity from donating their child's clothing because they feel happy they can help somebody who experienced something so painful and similar to them. It's a beautiful full-circle moment for many mothers. We plan to organize community events and create programs to educate the world about premature birth and raise awareness. We spread awareness in a variety of ways, such as using social media to share educational information about tiny fighters in the NICU and our journey with the hospitals we work with.
Our long term goal is to expand our organization's outreach to communities and hospitals in Connecticut and surrounding states, and to provide an easily accessible way for mothers in need to reach out to us personally for help. We plan to build a larger network of support to raise greater awareness of premature birth and its effects on babies and parents. Ultimately, we want to create a community where every NICU family can receive support, compassion, and resources, and we hope that, one day, NICU mothers we work with can be part of helping the next generation of NICU mothers.
